Reconfigurable Multiband Operation for Wireless Devices Embedding Antenna Boosters

Wireless devices such as smart meters, trackers, and sensors need connections at multiple frequency bands with low power consumption, thus requiring multiband efficient antenna systems. At the same time, antennas should be small to easily fit in scarce space existing wireless devices. Small, multiband, operation is addressed here non-resonant elements, featuring volumes less than 90 mm3 for operating 698–960 MHz well some a higher range of 1710–2690 MHz. These elements are called boosters, since they excite currents on ground plane device do not rely shaping complex geometric shapes obtain behavior, but rather design matching network. This approach results simpler, easier, faster method creating new every device. Since achieved through network, can configured optimized reconfigurable Two kinds architectures boosters presented. The first one includes digitally tunable capacitor, second radiofrequency switches. show that feature behavior very sizes, compared other prior-art techniques.
